After Georgia, Razorbacks schedule has five ranked teams left

The Razorbacks have nine regular-season games left, and five of them come against teams in the latest Associated Press Top 25.

The poll came out Sunday, one day after No. 2 Georgia beat Arkansas 45-17.

That means more than half of the remaining Arkansas football schedule is against ranked opponents. Arkansas isn’t ranked this week.

All five of those opponents are Southeastern Conference teams: Texas A&M, Tennessee, Missouri, Texas and LSU.

The first ranked opponent is No. 23 Texas A&M on Oct. 3 in College Station. The Aggies dropped 14 spots this week after Kentucky, an unranked team, beat them 31-21 at home.

No. 14 Tennessee follows on Oct. 10 at Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville.

The Hogs then host No. 19 Missouri on Oct. 31. Missouri moved up one spot this week, and the schools call the game the Battle Line Rivalry.

The Razorbacks travel to Austin on Nov. 21 to face No. 1 Texas.

The Longhorns held the top spot for a second straight week, and they’re the highest-ranked team on the list.

The regular season ends Nov. 28 in Fayetteville against No. 10 LSU in the Battle for the Golden Boot. The Tigers slid three spots following a 32-24 loss to Ole Miss.

Four opponents sit outside the poll

Not every game left is against a ranked team. Tulsa visits Fayetteville on Sept. 26, and Arkansas goes to Vanderbilt on Oct. 17.

The Hogs have a bye week on Oct. 24. After that, they play at Auburn on Nov. 7 and host South Carolina on Nov. 14.

None of those four teams appear in this week’s Top 25. That gives the Razorbacks four games against teams the voters left out.

The rankings could shift before Arkansas plays the ranked teams. Texas A&M travels to LSU this Saturday, so the Aggies’ spot might look different by Oct. 3.

LSU is coached by Lane Kiffin. The Tigers still sit inside the top 10 even after the loss in Oxford.

Georgia, the team that beat Arkansas on Saturday, stays second in the poll behind Texas.

SEC sets a mark in the poll

The SEC has 10 teams in the Top 25 this week. Now the SEC has put 10 or more teams in a regular-season Top 25 seven times.

The league’s record is 11, which it reached in two straight polls last September.

Ole Miss moved up to No. 4 after beating LSU. The Rebels haven’t been this high since the final poll of last season, when they were No. 3.

Florida made its first appearance of the season at No. 21 by winning at Auburn 44-39. Jon Sumrall, in his first year as coach, has the Gators at 3-0, their first such start since 2019.

Mississippi State came in at No. 24 after a 41-34 win at South Carolina. It’s the Bulldogs’ first Top 25 ranking since 2022.

Texas earned 58 of 69 first-place votes after a 30-6 win over UTSA. The Longhorns beat Ohio State the week before.

Arkansas isn’t in the poll, but its next game is at home against Tulsa on Sept. 26. The ranked games start a week later.
