Arkansas football fans got two pieces of roster news on the same day this week.
The Razorbacks added a proven safety with SEC-beating experience while also saying goodbye to a receiver who’d only been on campus a short time.
Tuesday brought word that former Liberty standout Brylan Green has signed with Arkansas, according to a report from Matt Zenitz.
Green started three seasons for the Flames and earned All-American honors back in 2023, so he brings real experience to a Hogs secondary that’s still filling out its depth chart less than two weeks before kickoff.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound defensive back put together a strong career in Lynchburg.
He racked up 38 tackles and five interceptions during his All-American campaign in 2023, then added 32 more stops the following year while also handling punt return duties.
He even has a personal tie to his new team, having piled up four solo tackles back in 2022 when Liberty pulled off its first-ever win over an SEC opponent, and that opponent was Arkansas.
Green landed in the transfer portal after a Louisiana judge ruled that players who signed in the 2022 class could return for an extra season in 2026.
That ruling opened the door for older players around the country to keep suiting up, and the Razorbacks have leaned into it.
Former Dartmouth defender Sean Williams and ex-Razorback safety Caleb Wooden both landed in Fayetteville under an earlier version of that ruling out of Colorado, and Green’s arrival gives the position group another veteran body with starting experience heading into the opener.
Gleaton Jr. exits program after brief stay
While the Razorbacks were adding to their secondary, they lost a piece of their receiving corps.
Wide receiver Maurice Gleaton Jr. has left the roster, a team spokesperson confirmed to HawgBeat, just weeks after he’d joined the program ahead of fall camp.
Gleaton didn’t come to Fayetteville as a typical transfer. He arrived from Georgia planning to be a two-sport athlete, splitting time between football and track.
The Atlanta native came out of the 2025 class as a three-star recruit and once drew interest from Georgia Tech and South Florida before landing at Georgia, where he decided to focus only on track.
He brought that same track-first mindset to Arkansas at first.
Coach Ryan Silverfield explained that relationships behind the scenes, including one with Arkansas track and field coach Doug Case, ended up pulling Gleaton back toward football.
Silverfield laid out the timeline on Aug. 3, explaining that mutual contacts on both sides connected him and Gleaton after learning the receiver already had an official track visit lined up.
Silverfield then reached out to Case directly, and Case gave his blessing, telling Silverfield he wanted more of his athletes to get a shot at playing football and that he wanted Gleaton to succeed.
Silverfield added that he’d run into Case in the neighborhood and was looking forward to having him watch some practices.
That plan didn’t stick, and Gleaton is now off the roster for reasons that haven’t been made public.
It’s a reminder that not every addition during a chaotic fall camp works out, even when the backstory sounds promising.
With the season opener less than two weeks away, the Hogs’ roster is still taking shape.
Green gives the defense another experienced body in the back end, while Gleaton’s departure leaves one less name at receiver heading into game week.
Key takeaways
- Arkansas signed former Liberty safety Brylan Green, a 2023 All-American who started three seasons for the Flames.
- Green’s addition follows a legal ruling giving 2022 signees an extra year of eligibility, joining Caleb Wooden and Sean Williams in that group.
- Wide receiver Maurice Gleaton Jr. is no longer with the Razorbacks after joining the team as a dual-sport athlete before fall camp.
