SEC Shorts Texas loss gives Razorback fans reason to grin this week
Arkansas missed the cut in this week’s comedy sketch, but Hog fans can still enjoy watching Texas get roasted instead.
The newest SEC Shorts video on YouTube didn’t have a single word about Arkansas.
The Hogs lost to Tennessee, and the skit skipped right past it.
After a loss, that’s not exactly bad news.
The writers had other targets this week, and Texas was first in line.
That works fine for plenty of folks in Arkansas. A lot of Razorback fans can’t stand the Longhorns, and some seem to care more about Texas losing than about their own team winning right now.
If the Hogs had to sit this one out, at least they got to watch.
Texas gets told to relax
The Longhorns get it within the first few seconds, when somebody tells them to settle down.
“Texas, relax. You’re still in the room. You’re just not on the throne.”
A little later, there’s a conspiracy theory. A character claims the SEC hid the pylons before the game to rattle Arch.
“You hide the pylons pregame, so you throw Arch off his game, and he throws a pick six four hours later.”
That theory gets shot down fast.
“Uh, throwing interceptions is Arch’s game, so I don’t think it had an effect,” another voice fires back.
That part might get a second play from a few Razorback fans.
Kentucky gets a jockey it didn’t ask for
Kentucky’s two wins over top 10 teams this season earned the Wildcats a spot in the skit’s top 10.
They also got a new team character. His name is Scooter, and he’s an aggressive play-calling jockey.
Kentucky tried to be nice about it at first.
“Not that I don’t appreciate the effort, but maybe we could keep workshopping it a little bit.”
Someone else in the room was less polite and called the whole thing sad on all levels.
Scooter stuck around anyway and threatened to whip somebody like a horse running in third. By the end of the bit, one voice admitted he’d grown on him a little.
Missouri odds, Florida misses old days
Missouri landed just outside the top 10. The Tigers didn’t sound upset.
The team Missouri plays next warned the Tigers not to get too comfortable. Missouri pointed out that opponent ranks 126th in the country in rushing defense.
“We might be able to get Jamal over 300 yards,” the Missouri character says.
Florida ended up grouped with teams that used to be in the top 10.
One Gators fan wished every Florida game could be an offensive blowout, like back in the Spurrier years. He forgot to say which team should do the blowing out.
“Ooh, you know, I failed to specify who gets blown out.”
Where that leaves the Hogs
Arkansas wasn’t in the video, and neither was Tennessee.
After a loss, staying off the comedy channel’s radar isn’t the worst outcome.
Nobody poked fun at the Razorbacks this week. The Longhorns took the heat instead.
The video closes with a quick gag about maybe getting someone named Peter into an episode this year. The answer is that he’s pretty busy in the fall.
Arkansas has a loss to shake off before the next game.
