Arkansas lost to Tennessee, and Matt Mitchell wasn’t about to let that one go.
The comedian’s newest episode hit YouTube, and the SEC Roll Call Arkansas moment turned out to be one of the better exchanges of the week.
It came after somebody tried to get control of a room full of teams that were already on edge.
“Until further notice, everybody in this room that isn’t ranked is under strict orders to stop winning.”
The Hogs had a quick answer for that.
“Way ahead of you.”
Coming right off the Tennessee loss, that one hit a little close to home.
Arkansas owns the joke
A voice across the room backed the Hogs up before the subject could change.
“No joke. This guy knows how to lose.”
The Razorbacks didn’t put up a fight.
“It’s true.”
Then the punting got brought into it, with a line about folks calling him “the Kentucky of punting.”
It’s maybe 10 seconds of video, and Arkansas fans probably won’t be quoting it fondly around the office this week.
Why the room was on lockdown
The Hogs weren’t the only ones having a bad week.
The episode opened with the whole league stuck in one room and nervous about it.
“We are in hell,” came the first diagnosis.
The numbers backed it up. “Four of our top 25 teams lost. Three of them lost to teams that were unranked.”
Until somebody figured out what was going on, nobody was getting in or out.
A team just back from a bye week said it would gladly take another. The worry was the league beating itself up all year, then losing a playoff game to an ACC team in what got called “the freaking mayonnaise bowl.”
That somehow led to a talk about deep fried mayonnaise sold near the Texas tower. I’m not sure I want to know.
LSU, Georgia and a missing pylon
Somebody rushed the field and said it was because they’d just witnessed history. The response was cold. It was just LSU.
The Tigers’ coaching hire took a hit too.
“You hired a man with a career losing record in SEC away games.”
Lane Kiffin’s pregame routine caused a mix-up. Okra was the guess. Yoga was the answer.
Georgia got compared to a hurricane named Kirby before someone downgraded it to a tropical depression.
South Carolina’s name came up with the claim that a result saved a man’s job since the school “couldn’t afford to fire Shane Beamer.”
Somewhere in the conference, there’s also a pylon thief.
“Who the hell steals pylons?”
Hogs get the best bit
Missouri reminded everybody its mascot is named after Harry Truman, then threatened to blow the whole room up.
The camera work didn’t escape, either. Its aim got compared to “a pass from Arch Manning in the fourth quarter.”
The Arkansas exchange was the one I laughed at most, even if it’s a tough one for Hogs fans to hear a few days after Tennessee.
It’s two short lines and a confession.
Mitchell kept it short and let the Razorbacks character do the talking.
