FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas is going to Nashville for a night game.
The SEC said Monday the Arkansas-Vanderbilt kickoff time is 6 p.m. Central on Saturday, Oct. 17 at FirstBank Stadium. ESPN2 gets it.
It’s been a while since the Hogs made this trip. Try 2011.
They won that day, 31-28, and they’ve won every other time they’ve played at Vanderbilt. That’s 4-0 if you’re counting.
This will be the 11th meeting. The Razorbacks have taken seven of the first 10, but the last one wasn’t pretty.
Vanderbilt won 45-31 in Fayetteville in 2018.
The two haven’t played since, which is odd for teams in the same league. Eight years, to be exact.
Somebody needs this one
Neither team is in good shape right now.
Arkansas is 2-3 and hasn’t won an SEC game in two tries. The last try was a 34-7 loss at Texas A&M.
Vanderbilt hasn’t won one either. The Commodores lost 38-14 at Georgia last weekend.
The Hogs’ two wins are North Alabama and Tulsa. Vanderbilt has beaten Austin Peay and Delaware.
You get the idea.
It doesn’t get easier this week for either of them.
Tennessee, which is ranked, comes to Razorback Stadium on Saturday for a 3:15 p.m. kickoff on SEC Network. Vanderbilt gets Ole Miss at home.
The Hogs did beat a fourth-ranked Tennessee team 19-14 in Fayetteville two years ago, so it’s been done. The Vols won 34-31 in Knoxville last season.
Not much help after that
Arkansas gets an open week after Vanderbilt.
Then Missouri shows up Oct. 31. The Razorbacks haven’t won that game since 2021, and Missouri took last year’s 31-17 in Fayetteville.
After that it’s at Auburn on Nov. 7, home against South Carolina on Nov. 14 and at Texas on Nov. 21.
LSU and new coach Lane Kiffin come to Fayetteville on Nov. 27 to wrap up the regular season. The Tigers have won four in a row over Arkansas.
Look at that list and then look at Oct. 17 again.
A 2-3 team that’s 0-2 in the league doesn’t get to circle many games. This is one the Hogs can at least have a shot.
