Arkansas swim and dive had its home opener Saturday, and it wasn’t much of a contest.
The Razorbacks beat Drury 209-83 and TCU 196-98. They’re 6-0.
Two teams came to town, and both left on the wrong end of a wide margin.
The Hogs swam or dove in 16 events. They won 15.
Somebody else got one. Good for them.
When Arkansas wasn’t finishing first, it was usually close behind. The team stacked six runner-up finishes and five thirds on top of all those wins.
Hayden Gibson had the busiest day of anybody. She won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:01.51, then the 200-yard backstroke in 2:00.66.
She wasn’t done. Gibson also touched first in the 200-yard individual medley at 2:04.16.
Four Hogs won twice
Three wins is a good day. Two isn’t bad either, and four Razorbacks pulled that off.
Harriet Rogers owned the sprints. She went 22.77 in the 50-yard freestyle and 50.10 in the 100.
Isabelle Leigh won the 100-yard backstroke in 53.46. Her 100-yard butterfly was almost the same time at 53.41.
Ellen Garritson took care of the breaststroke. She won the 100 in 1:02.82 and the 200 in 2:15.29.
Then there’s Maria Sanchez, who won both diving events. She scored 326.95 on the 1-meter and 365.40 on the 3-meter.
Holly Robinson won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:26.43. That’s a lot of laps.
Viola Petrini added a win in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:50.64.
Relays and a trip to Dallas
Arkansas won relays too. The 200-yard medley relay finished in 1:39.95 and the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:25.41, per the meet results.
So that’s seven different winners in individual events, with a couple of relays thrown in.
Not a bad way to open the home schedule.
Now the Hogs pack up. Members of the team go to Dallas next for the SMU Classic on Oct. 9-10.
It starts at 5 p.m. Friday. Saturday’s session begins at 10 a.m.
