Matt Mitchell jokes Sam Pittman could coach Oklahoma for less money

Matt Mitchell put on a bag with a pig nose poking through it and became the Arkansas Razorbacks for a few minutes on his weekly comedy show, SEC Roll Call.

Mitchell plays every team himself on the show, switching characters back and forth to poke fun at how each program looked over the weekend.

The format is simple but it works. Mitchell voices one team, then jumps into character as the next, letting the two sides trade jokes about wins and losses.

Nobody gets a pass and that includes the Razorbacks.

South Carolina got teased first for needing a hurricane and an FCS opponent to squeak out a win. Vanderbilt came next after rallying from behind to beat Delaware.

Florida picked up a lopsided win too and Mitchell used the moment to jokingly hand out an early Heisman prediction.

Auburn and Big 12 take their turn

Auburn’s bit leaned into fresh confidence after a big win with Mitchell joking the fan base already believes the team is “back.”

That set up a bit about Auburn and Florida playing each other next with the joke being that the winner only gets bragging rights for a single week.

The Big 12 caught its share of jokes too.

Mitchell joked the conference thinks it sits above everyone else only for the punchline to reveal it’s really stuck near a loading dock.

Kansas took a hit right after that for getting blown out with Mitchell joking it left his ears ringing.

Tennessee’s segment poked fun at the nickname Volunteers questioning whether the fan base actually volunteers for much besides a chili cook-off.

LSU got a mention too with a joke about wanting a bodyguard before facing the Tigers this season.

The Sam Pittman line closes out episode

The moment Hogs fans will want to see comes near the four-minute-30-second mark. Mitchell’s bit centers on Oklahoma giving coach Brent Venables a big contract extension after a win.

Playing the Oklahoma character Mitchell asks why the program would pay that much for a coach who keeps losing to Texas and Ole Miss.

That’s when Mitchell switches into the Razorback character and delivers the punchline of the segment joking that a guy named Sam would take the job for half the price.

It’s a clear nod to former Arkansas coach Sam Pittman and it lands as one of the biggest laughs of the episode.

Michigan and Oklahoma also traded jokes about which program disappointed fans more this year with the bit landing on Michigan edging out Oklahoma in that department.

Texas A&M got its own moment too with a joke about a freshman running back getting compared to a video game character after a strong outing.

Mitchell’s one-man format keeps finding an audience because it lets every fan base laugh at itself and everyone else in the same breath.

The Razorback bit with the bag and pig nose has become one of the show’s recurring bits and this week gave Hogs fans a specific line worth sharing before the next slate of games kicks off.
