FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas (2–3, 0–1 SEC) heads to Neyland Stadium on Saturday to face No. 12 Tennessee (4–1, 1–1) in what shapes up as a lopsided but unpredictable SEC matchup.

According to BetSaracen, Tennessee is a significant favorite. The latest odds list Tennessee at –400 on the moneyline, with Arkansas at +325. The point spread is set at Tennessee –10.5 (–110), with the over/under at 68.

Other sportsbooks show even wider margins. Action Network reports Tennessee at –12.5 with total points at 68.5. Fox Sports’ model projects a Tennessee win around 40–34 against Arkansas +10.5. Analysts at multiple outlets also lean toward Tennessee, citing Arkansas’ defensive struggles and coaching turmoil.

Coaching turmoil in Fayetteville

Arkansas enters the matchup in transition.

The Razorbacks dismissed head coach Sam Pittman following a 56–13 loss to Notre Dame and have installed Bobby Petrino as interim head coach.

Petrino promptly reshuffled much of the defensive staff and named Chris Wilson as defensive coordinator.

Tennessee’s staff recognizes the challenge of facing a changing opponent.

Vols coach Josh Heupel said the Razorbacks “are going to stress you. You have to handle motions, shifts, trades, all of that. Communication will be really important.”

He also said Arkansas may present a different defensive look with Wilson and new assistants calling alignments, saying “it can change a bunch.”

Despite the instability, Arkansas’ offense — led by quarterback Taylen Green — retains potential. Green has logged nearly 1,400 passing yards, 441 rushing yards, and 14 total touchdowns this season.

But the defense presents concern, ranking among the lowest nationally in yardage allowed, yielding over 425 yards per game and over six yards per play.

Tennessee’s path to control

Tennessee enters off a bye week, hoping to steady itself after an overtime loss to Georgia.

The Volunteers have won four straight overall and seek to avenge last season’s upset in Fayetteville.

Heupel has stressed the need for defensive adjustments, especially given Arkansas’ shifting schemes.

Tennessee’s defense has been susceptible to run-heavy teams; games against Georgia and Mississippi State saw their opponents average 3.6 yards per carry and multiple rushing touchdowns.

In the passing game, Tennessee must guard against over-exposure.

Some analysts favor Tennessee’s team total under 41.5 points, citing Arkansas’ ability to slow pace and limit explosive plays.

Others believe the offenses will produce high scoring, projecting an over on the 68.5 total and a final near Tennessee 40, Arkansas 34.

Key matchups to watch

  • Arkansas offensive balance vs. Tennessee front seven: Green’s dual-threat capability will test Tennessee’s run defense.

  • Arkansas new defensive scheme vs. Tennessee tempo: Wilson’s defense may bring new looks and blitz packages.

  • Tennessee secondary stability vs. Arkansas receivers: Tennessee must avoid giving up big plays.

  • Turnover margin and special teams: In games with mismatched talent, mistakes often decide outcomes.

Broadcast, kickoff, and series notes

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. Central Time (4:15 p.m. Eastern) at Neyland Stadium in Knoxville. The game will air on SEC Network and be available via streaming on ESPN platforms. Radio coverage comes via the Learfield Razorback Sports Network.

This marks the 21st meeting between the schools; Tennessee leads the series 13–7. Notably, Arkansas has won five of the last six matchups and four in a row before last season’s upset.

Key takeaways

  • Heavy Tennessee favoritism: BetSaracen and other bookmakers favor Tennessee by 10 to 13 points or more.

  • Arkansas in flux: Coaching change and defensive overhaul create uncertainty, even with offensive potential.

  • Offense likely to dominate: Given defensive weaknesses on both sides, expect a high-scoring affair with impact plays.
