FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas basketball turned Friday night into a celebration of both its men’s and women’s programs at “Primetime at the Palace,” a community event at the Walton Arts Center that offered fans a preview of the upcoming season.

The night featured remarks from men’s coach John Calipari, entering his second season in Fayetteville, and new women’s head coach Kelsi Musick, who was introduced publicly for the first time since being hired earlier this year.

Together, they framed the event as more than a pep rally — it was a look at how both teams will take shape heading into the 2025–26 season.

Calipari stresses balance and leadership

Calipari highlighted the depth of the men’s roster, noting that multiple players will be counted on to contribute.

“You’re going to see contributions from every spot on the floor,” Calipari said. “This isn’t a one-man team. We want versatility, defense, and players who understand their roles.”

He also underscored the importance of leadership. After finishing 22–14 last season and reaching the Sweet Sixteen, the Razorbacks now look for consistency in SEC play.

“Somebody has to take command on the court when the game gets tough,” Calipari told the crowd.

New faces meet returning players

Fans in attendance were introduced to the program’s incoming freshmen and transfers, players expected to provide energy, shooting and rim protection. Calipari also credited returning players with helping set the tone through summer workouts and preseason practices.

The Razorbacks ended conference play with an 8–10 SEC record last year, and Calipari acknowledged that depth will need to be a strength to survive the grind of league competition.

Musick outlines vision for women’s program

The event also gave women’s basketball its moment in the spotlight, with Kelsi Musick taking the stage to share her vision for the program.

Musick, who previously coached at Oral Roberts and is now beginning her first season in Fayetteville, emphasized player development and community connection as pillars of her approach.

“This is a fresh start for our team, and we want our fans to be part of that journey,” Musick said. “We’re going to play with energy and with pride in representing the University of Arkansas.”

The Razorback women finished 16–17 last year, and Musick inherits a roster that blends experienced returners with new additions. She said her focus is on building a competitive culture and establishing consistency within the SEC.

Community response in Fayetteville

Fans responded enthusiastically to the joint showcase, with Hog Call chants filling the hall. The combination of Calipari’s veteran presence and Musick’s first introduction gave the evening a sense of renewal for both programs.

For locals, “Primetime at the Palace” was less about scoreboards and more about connection. Parents brought children in Razorback jerseys, alumni gathered to welcome Musick, and longtime season-ticket holders showed their support for both teams.

The event underscored how basketball in Fayetteville has become a two-program story, with men’s and women’s squads aiming to push forward together.

Looking ahead

Both teams face stiff SEC competition this season. For Calipari, the challenge is turning depth into consistent results on the men’s side. For Musick, it is building early momentum while establishing a foundation for long-term success.

For fans, the message was clear: Razorback basketball is moving forward with new energy on both courts.
